Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

WIOA, pronounced as a word, stands for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. The program serves youth aged 16-24 who are not enrolled in school or any academic program at the point of program enrollment. Through one-on-one case management and job development, staff work with clients to equip them for the workforce.

This program provides employment assistance including job readiness training, resume assistance, mock interviews, and connections to employers.

There is opportunity for free vocational training in a variety of trades, with WIOA covering up to $8,000 for WIOA-approved programs. Many clients have become successful Certified Nurse Assistants and Patient Care Technicians through our partnerships.

The program also offers paid work experiences with several business partners across Chicago to give clients a paid opportunity to learn on the job while boosting their resumes and long-term employability.

In addition, the WIOA program assists clients who wish to return to school, including those seeking GEDs. Case managers also support clients through the college enrollment and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) processes while they pursue secondary education. Tutoring is available for any interested client. Other perks can include transportation assistance and other supportive services.
