The “How to Talk So Teens Will Listen” workshop focuses on effective communication strategies for parents, educators, and caregivers to foster healthy relationships with teenagers. It offers practical techniques for active listening, setting boundaries, and promoting open and trusting conversations.

• Dangers of online gaming, including exposure to inappropriate content
• Strategies parents can use to monitor and limit gaming and screen use

Objectives: 

  1. Teach parents how to interpret and use video game ratings to make informed decisions. 
  2. Equip parents with tools to set limits and boundaries on their children’s screen time. 
  3. Raise awareness about the potential negative impacts of unmonitored gaming and technology use. 

This workshop examines the various forms of bullying, its impact on children, and strategies that parents and schools can employ to prevent it. It also highlights the importance of diversity and inclusion in creating safe and respectful environments for all students.

• The different types of bullying, including cyberbullying
• Warning signs that a child may be bullying or being bullied
• Long-term effects of bullying on both the victim and the bully
• Power dynamics and the various roles children may play in bullying situations (assist, reinforce, defend, or stay silent)

This workshop aims to raise awareness about key health issues affecting men, specifically heart disease and diabetes. It emphasizes the importance of prevention, regular screenings, and healthy lifestyle changes to improve well-being in underserved communities.

• Heart disease is the leading cause of death among men in the U.S.
• Preventative steps, such as regular check-ups, staying active, and maintaining a healthy diet, are essential.
• Prediabetes is highly prevalent and often goes undiagnosed due to lack of symptoms.
• Lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
• Access to healthcare providers and community resources is essential for maintaining good health.  

Objectives: 

  1. Educate participants on the risks and prevention strategies for heart disease and diabetes. 
  2. Encourage men to take proactive steps toward regular health screenings and doctor visits. 
  3. Promote realistic lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and quitting smoking to improve long-term health.
